Shota Shimura
Shota Shimura is a media artist from Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. Raised in a family that ran an independent dry-cleaning business, he later traveled the world and worked in business development before completing a Master's degree at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS). His practice explores place-based narratives, experiences of movement, and the media environments of recording and communication. Using mobile technologies such as the iPhone and the bicycle, he pursues new media expression grounded in literary imagination. Recent presentations include the solo exhibition Mobile Literature: Tamagawa Anthem for Myself (2026, Tokyo), the solo exhibition Here's A Bicycle (2025, Lusaka, Zambia), and Roppongi Art Night (2023, Tokyo).
